The Pediatric Dentist

Children have unique dental needs.  The changes that a child goes through during many years of dental development -  from having no teeth to baby teeth to losing teeth to permanent teeth - need special monitoring and care.  The pediatric dentist is trained for an additional two years to provide this care.

It is very important to introduce your child to the dentist at a very young age.  Your child will learn to accept dental care more readily and with less apprehension.  By starting children very young, many dental problems can also be prevented by early intervention.

The pediatric dentist has specialized training which allows her to provide the most up-to-date and thorough treatment for a wide variety of children’s dental problems.  She is trained and qualified to treat special patients who may have emotional, physical or mental handicaps. She knows how to deal with the behavioral aspects of children, how to make them feel comfortable about the treatment they are receiving and to make the experience pleasant, not fearful.

The pediatric dentist is concerned with your child’s total health care, and good oral health is an important part of total health.  To help your child stay totally healthy the pediatric dentist often works with pediatricians, other physicians and other dental specialists.  All children, including hospitalized, handicapped and chronically ill children, are often served best through this team approach.
